EPT 5

What is EPT 5 ?
It is the main system of the Newanz website. We call the application EPT, which stands for Every Page Technology.

This topic will be posted in when ever some work is done, and updated when some smaller updates are made.

The progress in this topic will not be visible on the website itself, because it is first build on the Linux webserver at Tom de Bruijn's house.

If you are interrested on the updates for EPT 5 or you have any suggestions idea's, be sure to post them here!

Tom de Bruijn

I just finished the database for EPT 5.
I tried to keep it as small as possible, tables are not larger than they need to be and I hope to improve the speed of the website with table to table relations. There is just one risk table which need to be tested with relations, but if it fails, no relations are possible in any other way.

The EPT 5 database consists of 34 tables, which is an expansion of 9 tables in comparison with EPT 4. It's larger to be able to use all the new features we have planned and to link all the features together.

For now I just hope it will work as expected.

alright.. 34 tables?

nevermind that.. I just added two more.. two more?
Yes, that makes 36 tables now. It's to fully implement all sub sites more easy and I forgot to link the item lists to the pages. Meaning, the item lists would have never shown up Default

But I am guessing it's done now, maybe I will have a teacher of mine take a look at it to be safe.

<_< make that.. 38 tables!
I forgot the navigation tables.

I am currently making the layout, I want to redesign it a little.
No major changes, but some small changes to the design and removing a lot of the css coding mess.

Although I reported earlier that EPT 5 was now 40 tables big. I removed some tables and added more functionality.

The database now has a total of 38 tables, which can still change. Hopefully to slim it down even more.

I showed a new layout which is in development to some classmates and they were not exited about it. Work in progres guys! I am trying something radical and hopefully you will all like the end result Wink

*now back to work...

A new version of the EPT 5 database has been made. I managed to slim the database down to 33 tables, which as far as I can see are all needed.

Now the layout is also in good progress. I tried to make a layout from 100% out of div tags, but I can't seem to get it to work.
So if anyone can make the layout of Newanz with div tags only.. Show me and then I can apply it into the EPT 5 layout. But for now. Tables!

Layout

Last post I said I wouldn't go work with div's, but that's incorrect. Now I am working with div's, not completly in the main Newanz layout, but mainly in sub-sites layouts. I like to thank this website for it: { visibility: inherit; } (Yes that is the website title).

It wasn't perfect, but surely helped fixing my problems. Internet Explorer, shame on you! IE 7 + IE 8 Beta 2 both fail to show the div layout properly so I had to apply CSS "hacks". Webkit based browsers (Google Chrome and Safari) also showed their incompetense about letting the footer flow over the actual content Default , but that's fixed now.

I am also TRYING to write some small javascript "things". I was hoping to get a little help in that area, but seems I will have to manage it on my own.

Database

The database is still 33 tables, but colums have changed, relationships are added and removed. And still I have a little problem with the downloads, but I think it will work.

I am mainly working on the Admin Panel so I can test if the database is working properly and everything is linked together properly. I am learning quite a bit more SQL actually Laughing.

Thank you for reading,

Tom de Bruijn
